Welcome

First of all apologies for the lateness of this magazine. It was all set to go when we had server problems and the whole thing was lost so I've managed to write it again.
The one thing that seems to run through the articles, for me, is the real need for more volunteers.
We need to cater for our youngest folk and volunteers are needed for a creche rota.
The Broomburn Steps rota shows people on duty each month. If there were more people then there would be less frequency - every couple of months would be great.
Ian would love to have couple more singers then if people are ill or on holiday there would still be a good volume.
The AV team could do with a few more volunteers particularly as the holiday season will soon be upon us. Isobel would be delighted if anyone would pop up and sit alongside her to see what is involved. Full training would be given and it would be a real help.
The Welcome Team are the first folk anyone sees when entering the sanctuary.

I believe we are a welcoming community and all that's needed is a smile and a few words - could you join this team - Just speak to Donald.
I have noticed the grounds are looking neater. A big thank you to the people who quietly come along and tidy up wee and not so wee corners! We should now be able to see the rhodedendron in the carpark.
I have tried to get the council to cut back the bushes that scratch cars when passing each other in the access road. They believe a good job has been done but the large holly bush on the school side could really do with cutting back to the boundary fence. If all the foliage was cut back to the boundaries it would be better for all the vehicles. Please feel free to chop and cut things back - release your inner gardener. All cuttings can be placed in the woods as we do not have a brown bin permit. Only food waste goes in the brown bins for uplift.

Finally Clincarthill are hosting a production of The Passion on Wednesday 18 March. It has had great reviews. It would be great if as many of us as possible would support this .
If you would like to go but are worried about parking just speak to me or Donald. We could meet in the car park and car pool.

Minister's Message for the Month
1 How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!
2 It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard,
Running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe.
3 It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life for evermore.
(Psalm 133 NIVUK)
I wrote this around the same time as I was preparing the sermon on Nehemiah 6 to 7, where one of the themes was “Community” – specifically, the Church is called to be a community/family of God’s people, and to exist following the principles or ideals of a community/family; i.e. all are welcomed in Jesus’ name, have a place and a purpose, etc. As I was searching for other Scripture passages which also speak of this, I stumbled across this wonderful little Psalm.
This is one of the “Songs of Ascent”. That is, the Psalms (Psalm 120 to 134) sung by the People of God as they journeyed toward Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. The Songs of Ascent contain many different themes, which help remind the People of God who they are, who God is, and what He has done for them.
This is particularly significant when we connect the Songs of Ascent with the Passover. By singing these songs, those journeying to Jerusalem are grounding themselves once again in their identity as God’s People; those whom He saved from slavery in Egypt. They are remembering that, when they were powerless to save themselves, God came and rescued them, bringing them “home” to the Promised Land. These reminders would no doubt have helped the People as they then shared in the Passover together – the meal shared before the Spirit of the LORD “passed over” the Israelites, to bring judgement upon the Egyptians; all thanks to the blood of the sacrificial lambs.
The People who sang Psalm 133, then, would do so to create a sense of unity: although they descended from different tribes and families, they were united together because of the salvation they shared.
I trust that already the parallels for us today are becoming clearer as you read!
We too know that salvation of God, thanks to the blood of a “sacrificial lamb”. Jesus is sometimes described in this way, as He took upon Himself the consequences of our rejection of God, in His death. In doing so, God is able to declare us as set free from these consequences, granting us the status of His dearly beloved children. In this declaration, we are also “brought home” – home into the family of God; home into His Church in the present; home into His presence for all eternity, in the New Creation, in the future.
Because this salvation is achieved for us by Christ, and His perfect and complete work, we cannot lose our place so long as we persevere with Him. And since this is granted to us by Christ, we are able to share in unity with other followers of Jesus: the worldly divisions we might draw melt away in the light of that which primarily unites us – that is, our shared faith in Christ.
We all could tell stories of the pain of Church disunity. And while there may be times someone could argue Christians should legitimately part company, that is not my focus here. Rather, I would want to echo David’s observation: that when the People of God live together in unity, it is good and pleasant; in fact, it is so precious, it is like the anointing oil poured on the priest to purify him of sin, and set him apart in God’s service; it is so refreshing, it is as if the dew of Hermon (which was known to be extremely plentiful!) was being poured down upon Mount Zion.
Such is the power of a united People of God (in the Church): that through us, God is able to bring the message of Gospel purification to that which is broken, and is able to refresh a dry and dark world!
As we continue to meditate on God’s call for our Church, let us pursue the kind of unity which can purify and refresh!
With every blessing,
Stuart

Bookcases

Some of you will have noticed we have a couple of bookcases at the back of the sanctuary next to the Prayer Tree. We are fortunate that they were donated by folk who responded to my appeal in the last magazine. One of the people worship with us occasionally but the other is a local lady who reads the magazine online!
Please take a look at the books and you may take one to read at your leisure. If you wish to pass it on to someone else that is fine. You may also keep it or return it.
If you have any books at home you have finished with you may add to our library.
There are a few books about Easter that I would recommend by John Piper.
Happy Reading
Denise
THANKS
Alina would like to thank everyone who send cards and condolences following the death of her mother in Romania. She is very grateful for our prayers and kind gestures.

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped to clear the church steps. Your efforts make the area safer for everyone who uses it – not just our congregation, but the many walkers who pass through by as well.
We are a small team and would really love a few more people to join us ~ many hands make light work! It’s a lovely way to get some fresh air, enjoy a little light gentle exercise, and spend time with others in our community.
If you’re interested in helping, please let me know ~ even if you can only manage once or twice a year, it would be very much appreciated.
Should anyone need to change their date, we can arrange swaps, and we have a fantastic team who are always glad to step in if needed.

REFURBISHMENT OF THE WEST ROOM
As we continue to rebuild spiritually as a church we have also addressed refurbishing certain rooms to allow us to further advance our aims within the church and to serve the community .
A group of volunteers came together to start stripping the West room . There was a great atmosphere as we set about removing the notice boards and flooring . Everyone’s gifts quickly surfaced and the team worked smoothly to accomplish a lot .
Relatives have also willingly lent a hand which has been so encouraging.
It would be fair to say some new skills were also learnt and will hopefully continue to be put to good use going forward .
We are delighted as a group to reach the point of putting in the new carpet tiles .
We would like to thank everyone who gave so generously to this project to allow us to get to this point .
It will be exciting to see how it is used in the near future .
The notice boards are now recovered and the next update will be to show the final results .
Many thanks again ,
Maxwell’s refurb team .

Clothes Recycling Bin
NEXT UPLIFT MONDAY 16 MARCH
Please remember the clothes bin in the church car park.
If you have unwanted/worn out clothes, linens, towels etc they can benefit
church finances.
Place the clothes / shoes in a carrier bag, tie it securely and place in the recycling bin.
It is emptied regularly and the church receives a bank transfer quarterly.
If the items can be reused they are passed on but even worn out/ torn items have a value.
Charity shops really only use clothes that are in season but the recycling bin takes all clothes at all times.

PRAYER GROUP
The prayer group meets in the Dorothy Lloyd Room every Thursday at 7.30 pm and all are welcome.
You may pray aloud or in silence.
"Where two or three gather in my name there am I with them" Matthew 18:20
"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place."

Maxwell Pray Now Group
Pray Now is a WhatsApp group for Maxwell members |
 |
This group sends out occasional requests for prayer. In particular those which might be regarding things more acute or immediate. At present there are 18 of us who, when we receive a request for prayer, stop what we are doing and pray for whatever has been asked.
Are you on the Pray Now WhatsApp Group? If you want to be added to the group to receive prayer news then simply ask Denise and she will add your number to the list.
If you have a matter that you would like to be prayed about in this way, you can contact Denise and she will organise for news to be sent out.
