Hi,
Hope this finds you well.

It's Remembrance Sunday this week - always a sobering moment each year remembering lives given at great cost, lives sacrificed, often unnecessarily, and thankfulness for the days of relative peace we live in just now. We look forward to Rev George Johnston leading our service again this Sunday in Scott's continued absence. It was good to hear from Scott this week that he was through another stage of his treatment - let's keep both Scott and Anita in our prayers.

There was sad news this week as we learned of the death of Claire Falconer's dad, George Murphy, following a short illness. The funeral was this past Tuesday.  Please continue to hold the family in your prayers at this difficult time.

We naturally mark difficult times for people at Maxwell and at the same time also rejoice with those who are celebrating. The remarkable image that Paul gives us of the church being like a body continues to be an encouragement to us as well as calling for us to take responsibility for those around us..

Paul writes, "Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.  Now if the foot should say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,’ it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.  And if the ear should say, ‘Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,’ it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.  If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be?  As it is, there are many parts, but one body....The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I don’t need you!’ And the head cannot say to the feet, ‘I don’t need you!’
...If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honoured, every part rejoices with it.....Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. " From 1 Cor 12

One of the ways we can make a difference in people's lives is to pray for them...there are details of a prayer diary for November in the magazine - a short focus for each day. Don't worry if you're coming to this late, put it to good use.

Enjoy the mag.

Daily prayer through 30 days for the nation and church

image (13)

Greenview Evangelical Church has put some resources together to encourage daily prayer through 30 days for the nation and church.
It would be good for us to join them in the 30 days of November.

I have permission to send you these resources. They will help facilitate a short time of prayer each day.
I have asked Sue to send this out weekly in my absence to remind us of this opportunity.
(The prayer diary can also be downloaded here)

Perhaps you could arrange to meet a friend there. It is arranged differently to the way we work in the garage but they do need volunteers.
Evening sessions can be arranged as well as Saturday checking provided there are enough people interested.
If you wish further information about volunteering at Hillington please call me on 0141 639 4716.

THANK YOU

I want to say thank you for all the cards, phone calls, texts, flowers that I received after the death of John, also the prayers and ongoing prayers.  It was and still is very much appreciated.
I have moved from Eaglesham, and for the moment I am staying with Mum.  I would like to thank the “3 Musketeers” for all the hard work they did moving some of my belongings down to Mum’s house, they were brilliant.
My email and mobile details are the same. Many thanks again

PRISONERS' WEEK

prison leaflet

Please continue to hold Dorothy Russell and her valuable prison chaplaincy work in your prayers.
Dorothy writes:  We have been working on a programme during lockdown.
Due to Covid we have had to work very differently on this year’s project which has been a challenge.
The up side however, is that the production this year will be performed by actors outwith the prison and not by prisoners in the prison which means we are able to broadcast it on social media platforms.

I hope that you may be interested to watch it on 17November when it will be live streamed (or later in the week.)

God’s Pleasure

I must admit
I am embarrassed
by
what gives me pleasure.
It doesn’t take much
to make me smile.
I get real pleasure from
a good steak,
nice chocolate,
or a comfortable bed.
I want the joy of cold soda
and hot tea.
I want the bathroom to
be empty
when I need it.
I want the streets
I drive on
to be free of other drivers.
I want people
to respect my opinions
and validate my plans.
I want my wife to
be satisfied with
me as I am.
I want my bills
all paid
and plenty of money
to do pleasurable things
that make me happy.

But God isn’t like me.
His pleasures
aren’t a sad
catalog of low-grade idolatries.
His desires
aren’t shaped by
ravenous self-focus.
He doesn’t live in
a perpetual state
of self-absorbed
discontent.
His pleasures
are never regrettable
ugly
or unholy.
When God smiles,
his reason is holy
and his purpose
is pure.
He finds great pleasure
in his glory and
great joy
when the repentant turn
from the pursuit
of their own glory
and turn toward his.
He has great pleasure
in the success
of his plan
and finds satisfaction
in seeing his children
turn from their pleasure
to live for his.

Someday
by his grace
the pleasures
that give me pleasure
will be the things that
please God.
Until then,
my hope
is in the fact
that he finds delight
in rescuing
those who have been led astray
by their pleasures,
because once more today
I’m going to need that rescue.
And I’ll need it
every day
until my deepest pleasures
are nowhere
to be found in creation
and only to be found
in the Creator.

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. (Phil. 3:8)
